Abstract
This article analyzes different kinds of lies, misrepresentations and falsehoods present in historical analysis at various levels: the compilation and documentary criticism, the explanation, and the narrative transmission. Some continuities and discontinuities in these practices are pointed out. Finally, it is proposed how the intellectual climate promoted by postmodernism -with its irrationalist, skeptical, andrelativistic principles- eases the spread of impostures and undermines our ability to face them critically.
