Abstract
The present paper is an exercise in articulation between literature and history within the philosophical thought of the Spanish Baroque. Spanish literature ofthe Baroque is placed as an incomparable framework to peep into the Spanish thoughtof the Golden Age. The present work rescues the humanist proposal of the 16th and 17th centuries; of that Baroque that appears as a failed modernity according to the Black Legend, which spreads the idea of a Spain incapable of generating civilization, and only able to produce monstrous or misshapen dwarfs.
